RUINS OF CISTERCIAN ABBEYS

A few albums with pictures taken at the beautiful, haunting ruins of Cistercian abbeys in Hampshire... caught in moments when the weather contributed significantly to the mood of the English Heritage sites...

These abbeys were 'suppressed' (a nice term...) by Henry VIII in 1536.

The first monks entered it in 1239, its ruins were one of Jane Austen's feavourite place for quiet inspiration...
